Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah is the Minister of Health since May 2016. He was appointed by Royal Decree No. A / 134, dated: Rajab 30, 1437 AH, Prior to that, he was the post Minister of Commerce and Industry on which he held between December 2011 and May 2016. Dr. Al-Rabiah held a number of positions before assuming ministerial positions; he was the General Director of the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (Modon) from April 2007 to December 2011, and Acting Deputy of Industry Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry from April 2010 to December 2011, and a supervisor of the National Industrial Cluster Program during the same period. He also was a former General Director of the Communications and Information Technology Sector at the General Investment Authority (Curerntly the Ministry of Investment), and he was a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, USA, and an advisor to a number of governmental and private institutions. Dr. Tawfiq currently chairs the boards of directors of each of the following: The Saudi Health Council, Saudi Red Crescent Authority, Saudi Food and Drug Authority, Board of Trustees at Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, Council of Health Insurance, Medical Cities and Specialized Hospitals Regulatory. In 1986, Dr. Al-Rabiah obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Management and Mathematics from the College of Business Administration at King Saud University, and in 1990, he obtained a Master’s degree in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh in the state of Pennsylvania, and three years later, he received a second master's degree from the same university in computer science and a doctorate in computer science in 1999. Dr. Tawfiq presented more than 16 scientific research in reference journals and international conferences, and co-authored a book on high-speed networks, and also co-authored the Saudi National Information Technology Vision Plan document, which formed the basis for the development of the Saudi National Information Technology Plan. He also wrote several articles in various local newspapers related to e-government, e-commerce and telecommunications Among the most prominent of his current memberships are; Membership of the Council of Ministers, the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, the Supreme Hajj Committee, the Drugs Committee, and the Civil Defense Committee.
